In a sensitive large scale environment such as healthcare spaces, the need for effective signage and wayfinding systems plays a pivotal role. In such a scenario the architects and the senior management of the multi-specialty hospital consulted Cogwheel Studios in designing and developing a signage system for their newly built 560-bed hospital within their 40-acre campus located in Kochi, Kerala. By understanding the various nuances such as diversity, cultural and subcultural influence conditioning the people’s behavioural pattern and the healthcare brand and service values, we conceptualised, designed and proposed a complete adaptable solution by banking on the existing healthcare infrastructure that could easily connect with the target audience and also enhance the interior ambience of the overall multi speciality hospital.

Information Design
The project was kickstarted by understanding the nature of the existing system and the conceived brand values of the multi-specialty hospital. To establish a sense of brand coherence and user-friendly solutions, these understanding was further transformed into suitable graphical art forms and information diagrams.
Application Techniques
While observing the clutter, and the availability of large wall surface areas in the built-up environment, we proposed to use the same for communication purposes. This, in turn, eliminated the need for additional hardware and fittings, thus reducing the overall clutter in the built-up environment and enhanced the perception of the projected information design.
Wayfinding and Environmental Graphics
With our path-breaking design intervention in the information/communication design systems, we further intervened to develop the wayfinding and environmental graphics for the entire hospital in order to demonstrate the adaptability factor of the conceived information design system and to establish a holistic solution under the signage and wayfinding for the health care facility.
